Where is the state of New York hip hop? Where is that sound that ruled '88 and '94? Where is that boom bap record that hot 97 and every other radio station is sleeping on? I recently heard Rakim on a radio interview and he was asked about the state of hip hop today and he responded by saying the New York emcees let that crown get away. The state that created this genre that we all have come to love are being looked upon as has-beens. How come New York doesn't get that respect anymore? Has the south taken over that much? Has Soljah Boy type songs changed the game so much that people disregard the art of true emceeing?
