I'm glad that somebody finally decided to explain the pros and cons of going independent as opposed to being signed by a major label. There'a a lot of liars out there ("I get 7 dollars for every album!") and it seems like the record sales at the majors are a lot of hype that doesn't help the artists as much as it would seem. Going multi-platinum isn't as sexy as we thought!
One thing that was interesting was how B.O.N.E. (CLE) started on the majors, then went indie, used the indie as a springboard to get back to the majors. That was an angle I didn't think of before. Since record sales help get you more loot for shows, it seems as if the Majors have the edge... but it's a pretty close call the way that records are selling these days.
That article was a good look!
