Full Version: Sick Of The Same Old!
XXL Magazine > XXL > XXL Magazine

I am so sick of seeing the same rappers on your covers, and the same artists being interviewed! You ever heard of Sage Francis, who just released an amazing record with real lyrics? How about Murs 3:16, who actually has an amazing flow and doesn't waste it on coke rhymes and gang bangin'? I am bored stiff, and sick to death of Fifty and Jeezy! I really don't care to know that they took a big shit on each other last week. Furthermore, F---k Fifty, he thinks he's great and that his posse can't talk to his enemies? Well, who the hell can they converse with, he hates any one who's a competitor. Besides, are we really on that level anymore, worrying about who Fifty hates this week? I thought you were hip-hop on a higher level? I want to see real rappers on your covers, not these coke and guns, dime a dozen, wanna-be rappers! I will not subscribe to this mag again, and I have been a longtime fan!

Wow thats amazing i just got done recommending Murs 3;16 in another thread; Murs

Yea Sage Francis is ridiculous. I remeber when i first copped Personal Journals three or four years ago in the summer. At first i was like who the fuck is this dude but after listening for a while ive been hook. Alot of people complain that sage is too EMo that he is one of those overtly pretension white rappers who feed of white americas self loafing. But every once in a while ill hear something from Sage that is simply amazing and demands further interpretation/

"I attended a candlight vigil for mathew sheppard while you put out a fuck you faggot record"

"Wipe the floor with your pyshce some more/ and go to war/with Michael Moore in a Nike Store"

"How much opposition does it take for your stance or position"

My mind is blank right now i havent listened to Sage in a long time.

The point is this XXL has a responisbility to make money and profits. The only persons they are accountable to are there share holders. "Hip Hop on another level" is a eupheumism for the dow Jones. It would be nice if XXL went outside the box it confides itself to a wrote about artist who do not perpetuate stereotypes. I understand that these artist sell records and that they have established media legitimacy. But why marginalize other mcs in the process. I mean is there a calendar somewhere or some other sheet that states when an artist like the "game" or "50" needs to be on the cover. "Its been almost a year without young jeezy on the cover," says editor. "BUt he hasnt produce anything," writer says. "Well fabricate some sort of beef with another rapper," editor instructs. "okie dokie" Writer complies.
All i want is for XXL to take a chance and step outside of its comfort zone. I thought it did so when i saw a review of Canibus's new albumn. I was disapointed to learn that the Feature was limited to an online version and had no print counterpart.

This is a rant take it as you will.
