i read this short story called the handicap of definition.

it basically is about how if a white person can dance or play basketball or something well, and someone tells them that they play or dance like a "black" person, they smile and take it as a compliment.

but if a black person who studies and does all his homework and uses proper english, ect., then they are considered to be acting "white" and take it as an insult..

what do you think about this??

ps. im not trying to start any arguements or anything like that. i just want to know everyones thoughts

This is my 2 cents worth (And I know some won’t agree with me):

I think that black folks have this love and hate fascination with white people. I think that we (abate abamyama) secretly (sometimes not even secretly) want that type of lifestyle that the white folks are assumed to have, but at the same time we don’t want to "sell out". (By the way, I never did understand the whole selling out thing. but that’s another argument for another militant person to take up mad.gif )

We like it when other races mimic us, but we frown at a black person who tries to be like someone else. I think the way that black success is scaled up against other races' success is some what off. And another thing that is true but not all black people will admit to, is that we still don’t think that we are worth a whole lot. And that is sad in itself.
