I FEEL THE GENERATION GAP WITHIN THE BLK. COMMUNITY
HURTS US MORE THAN WE KNOW. (WITH ALL DO RESPECT) PEOPLE OF THE CIVIL
RIGHTS ERA DIDN'T PASS THE TORCH TO THE NEXT
GENERATION. ALOT BLK. YOUTH GET THEIR DOSE OF
HISTORY FROM SCHOOL & BOOKS!

MY GRAND PARENTS WERE BORN & RAISED IN MISS.
BACK IN DA EARLY 1900'S THE KNOWLEDGE THEY HELD
WAS SO DEEP , BUT BAD THING IS I HAD TO ASK ABOUT THEIR HISTORY
WHEN IT SHOULD OF BEEN GIVEN FREELY.

THIS IS WHY THERE IS SUCH A DISCONNECT BETWEEN
THE CIVIL RIGHT ERA & THE HIP-HOP GENERATION. GRAND PARENTS
DON'T WANNA LISTEN & UNDERSTAND KIDS OF TODAY &
THE BLK. YOUTH WITH NO REAL SENSE OF THEIR PASS
FOUNDED THEIR VOICE THROUGH HIP-HOP CULTURE.

OTHER GAPS THAT ADD TO OUR PLIGHT IS RICH BLKS.
NOT WANTING TO HELP POOR BLKS. EDUCATED BLKS. LOOKING
DOWN ON UNEDUCATED BLKS. & THE OLD & YOUNG NOT WILLING TO
LISTEN TO EACH OTHER! (THINK OF HOW MUCH JESSE JACKSON &
AL SHAPTON WOULD GET DONE IF THEY WOULD WORK WITH HIP-HOP
ARTIST MORE & BRING IN A NEW YOUNG BLK. LEADER THAT
CAN CATCH THE EAR THE YOUTH!

True shit...

Those that were involved with the Cival Rights Movement look at the youth of

Hip-Hop as deliquents (sp?). Esp in the early 90's with the domination of Gangsta

Rap. That gave survivors of the Cival Rights Era more ammunition. When you look

at it from a certain percpective you can't blame them for looking down on the youth

nowadays.

30, 40 plus years ago, African-Americans were fighting just to be heard. Then with the

birth of Hip-Hop, everyone had the right to say whatever they want. But instead of

sharing knowledge, certain people decided to talk about "bitches", "guns" etc etc.

It's not just African-American's though. American's in general would rather listen to

music about the aforementioned then learn something.

I don't know anything about MY European History, so this shit applies to everybody.

That is real talk Cryza. I myself have become disconnected with today's youth and I am only 21!..lol. To much individualality man. I just broke up with my girl becuz she is too self-absorbed. Back to the subject at hand, people say don't read a book by its cover, but it is organic in nature to do so. Rap has had a bad name since the start of NWA and it continues to get worse day in and day out. Do the youth honestly think the older generation is going to have a positive outlook on today's music when the lyrics to the #1 song on the charts is saying "Til the sweat drip down my balls"?...lol

Instead of pointing fingers @ the older generation, the youth needs to look @ the man in the mirror and make that change.. ph34r.gif

What were going through is not a new phenomenon. There once was a time when Blues was considered 'the devil's music" and Jazz was not accepted in it's early stages either.

The saddest thing history has shown me is that musicians are often not appreciated for the true educational and artistic merit of their craft until they are dead and gone.

THE OLDER GENERATION HAS GOT TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AS
WELL AS THE YOUTH. PARENTS GOTTA STOP USING RAP & TV
AS AN ESCAPE GOAT, WHEN KIDS GO BAD! IT IS UP
TO A PARENT TO BREAK DOWN WHAT IS ART & WHAT IS
GARBAGE. WHEN N.W.A. DROPPED "FUCK THE POLICE"
I REMBER ALOT OF BLK. COMMUNITIES BEING HAPPY CAUSE
SOME-1 HAD THE GUTS TO SAY IT OUT LOUD ABOUT HOW WE TRULY FELT!

I agree..The youth are the result of the foundation(the parents). If the foundation is weak, so will the outcome. Many parents do not get enough credit for building a strong interior in the household, which will lead to a strong exterior in the children. Rap music is the semi-blame, but not the full blame. When PE and NWA came out, rap had a message about atonement and consciousness. Now, you can fill in the blank because I am very disconnected with today's rap. I am glad to see young brothers and sisters get money and become entrepreneurs, but the love of the music is gone.

I feel you...NWA didn't start it though, it was already being evolved through cats like

Schooly D. NWA just took it farther. That's a natural cycle. The more freedom people

get, the more they try and push the evelope. You can't just blame one generation.

Kids nowadays from every race is bad, parents from any race don't know how to discipline(sp?)

their kids. *White Parent* "Jimmy, your going on timeout, till you promise me you won't

stab your sister no more." smh......

Every demographic in America is at fault for the unravelling of our current generation.

alot of that is far from the truth, why should rich blacks help the poor? when they make money on their own and have theyre ''OWN'' familly to take care of?? and as far as the civil right movement to the new generation ERA, well im african, but i feel i can put my 2 cents in since black americans tend to talk about the ''motherland'' so frequently.. is that its called a ERA for a reason, move on, hence ''the civil rights MOVEMENT<<..obviously black americans of this generation(today) never endured that period in history!!

my advice is
DONT BE A SHEEP AND FOLLOW EVERYBODY ELSE IN IDEAOLOGY, BE A INDIVIDUAL MAN!!!

QUESTION IS WHY SHOULDN'T BLKS HELP BLKS? IF WE DON'T HELP OUR OWN
THEN WHO WILL??? I UNDERSTAND THE FACT THAT ALOT MIDDLE CLASS & RICH BLKS
DON'T WANNA GET THEIR HANDS DIRTY, SO IT REALLY COMES DOWN TO WHAT'S IN
YOUR HEART. AT END OF THE DAY BEING RICH DOESN'T TAKE AWAY THE
FACT THAT WHITE AMERICA WILL NEVER ACEPT U 100% wink.gif (HOUSE NIGGAS FOUND
OUT VERY QUICKLY THAT THEY WERE NO DIFFRENT THAN THE FEILD NIGGAS)

THE FIRE THAT BURNED INSIDE THE OUR PEOPLE OF THE CIVIL RIGHT ERA.
SHOULD OF STAYED LIT. & PASSED ON, SO THAT THE YOUTH OF EVERY
GENERATION COULD FEEL & KNOW THAT POWER TO FIGHT INEQUALITIE,RACIAL
INJUSTICE, GOVERMENT POLICY, FOR REPARATIONS, UNFAIR BLK.
INCARCERATION, PROFILEING ECT.... MY PROFF IS THAT THE YOUTH OF
TODAY CARE MORE ABOUT FOR RIMS, GOLD CHAINS
& LIL JON'S NEW SONG! (HOW CAN U FIGHT IF U WERE NEVER TAUGHT?)

THOSE THAT DON'T LEARN FROM HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT cool.gif
