Here it is people...I know we got a lot of people that love to discuss Boxing (I'm one of'em). Let's get it all out here. Since this is a year long sport, I'll pin it.

I'll start it by restating my claim that Sugar Ray Robinson is the BEST boxer of all time....

Thats a good pic and i respect your opinion but no one is even close to touching Ali. Sugar Ray Robinson was definitely the best boxer of his era and was pretty much unstoppable untill he met the raging bull. But with that said now come on you know Sugar Ray didnt have the level of competition that Ali had and neither did he have the overall skills that made Ali so spectacular. If Ali were in his prime today, he would still be the best boxer in the sport and i cant say the same for Sugar. In my opinion, the other Sugar Ray (Leonard) is the 2nd best pound for pound fighter next to Ali.
ChefB1
Sugar Ray Robinson is definately a damn good choice for greatest boxer ever, he was literally a beast in the ring, he had style, grace and the boxers brain to back it all up.

I aint hating on Ali cos imma HUGE Ali fan, really i am but i read an article recetly and if i can find it ill post it again.

Basically it went along the lines of how Ali is often labelled the best boxer ever and Tupac is labelled the best rapper ever...when really its their image and their influence that makes them " the GOATS".....like i say im not hating but its definately a good read, i hope i can find it to post it up.

Honestly tho its all down to opinions, for everytime you think theres somebody whos the best at what they do, they'll always be someone to disagree with ya....

Its how ya determine the difference between who's your favourite and who's your greatest
Enigma
That is exactly what I been saying! Ali is undoubtly a GREAT boxer....but his EGO, and FLAMBOYANT talking is what made him "the greatest". Nobody was sayin it before HE DID. Everyone went along with it because he was kickin ass.

To say SRR had no competition at all makes no sense. I guess people think he was THE ONLY good boxer back then....no he wasn't. On top of that, he'd fight several fights a month!!! Not just one fight every 6 months like Ali did...and boxers of today. He was extremely conditioned to do so...and if Ali tried that shit, he would have been sat on his ass.

SRR had over 210 wins only about what less than 20-30 losses I believe, and like 150+ knockouts! Why you think Ali don't have nowhere near HALF that record.....because he couldn't keep up his conditioning to fight at that pace. He needed months of training to reach the level of fitness he had in those fights.

Just like Omma said in the other thread....Jack Johnson was a better Heavyweight than Ali anyway...let alone somebody else.

You cant compare 2pac to ali now, well maybe as far as their outspoken personalities. Ali was the most skilled boxer of his time, 2pac was NOT the most skilled rapper of his time, big difference. On top of that, Ali beat some of the most ruthless sluggers in their prime and made them look really bad while doing so. Look at Liston and Foreman, both were undefeated knockout artists that were feared by everyone else that had to do with boxing and ali took them out with ease.
Enigma
You taking the Ali/Pac thing a lil too literal now. He was only comparing the way their ATTITUDES boost the legacy they have. He isn't sayin anything about the talents....just how the swagger, boasting and attitudes made people think more of them.

Speaking on the Liston, Foreman thing. Yes, Ali did easily beat good, intimidating, slugger boxers...but that's all they were, SLUGGERS. Like I've said, I DO give Ali his props...nobody is saying he was sorry, but all it took to beat those people was a little bit of thinking!! He just had to think of how to get around the thoughtless haymakers that these people threw. Hell Buster Douglas beat one of the GREATEST SLUGGERS OF ALL TIME in Iron Mike...that doesn't mean much of anything except the fact how every slugger has weakness, and if it's exposed...it's over!

Everybody is arguing this as if we saying Ali wasn't great! To say nobody could beat him in his prime is an argument for Heavyweights only, and that's not the discussion here....it's every weightclass, so you can't really compare 2 like they were to fight unless it's the same class.

Some people like to jump around in debates to make certain points fit the view they have....but I don't roll that way.

Shane Mosley Vs. Fernando Vargas.....the rematch

Fernando got his eye swole last time. Who's gonna take the rematch? Will it be a KO, TKO or a split decision?

Enigma
I think Vargas might win this one by SD. He was coming back in that last fight, but his eye was already too far gone. If he learned anything from the work Mosley put on his face with the jab, then he could do something in this fight....if not then Mosley will dominate the entire fight.

ve a feeling Mosely might just take it, i think it'll be a close one tho, cant see it being too one sided nd i dont want it being stopped due to cuts.......

Right now my favorite modern boxer is Tito Trinidad..

But the best boxer of ALL TIME is Sugar Ray Robinson..

The man was the Juggernaut of his prime. Those hooks made life changing experience for those guys who thought of fighting in a ring again.

Even Ali said that Robinson was the GOAT..

178 Wins, 19 Loses, 6 draws & 108 K.Os

Now thats the greatest boxer in existence..

At least somebody else besides me and Chef can see through the Boasting and Bragging of Ali long enough to realize who the REAL GOAT IS!!!

Everybody else....STEP YOUR GAME UP

Right now I am messing with mayweather... Winky... Taylor. In that order. And Taylor could be a beast once he gets his coordination together. He boxes like his equal Librium is off or something.

As far as who's the GOAT goes I can't decide because most of the boxers are before my time and are usually glorified.
Enigma
Yeah Floyd and Winky have been my 2 favorite boxers for bout the past 7-8 years now. I'm glad to see them on top of the game now...I made good picks.

What do y'all think of Carlos Baldomir giving Gatti the BEATING OF HIS CAREER!! He done beat Judah and a washed up yet still a brawling Gatti now. I think dude is aight...but I think he should slow down tryna call out my boy Floyd though cause he will get his ass DAMAGED!

dry.gif .... ph34r.gif .... dry.gif
Jay
Carlos Baldomir is bigger than his opponents. I think that's why he's given it to a few cats. I don't know about a mayweather vs. baldomir but I would like to see mosely vs. baldomir. And if baldomir beats mosely, then maybe mayweather vs. baldomir.

B-Hop will make it a boring fight untill the late rounds and then he will open up and try to catch Winky slipping, but it will be hard because Winky has superb defense.
Enigma
^^^^

Well I didn't order it cause I thought it wouldn't be worth the $50 to see it that night, but I was SICK watching ESPN when they was showing the back n forth rounds being won. I'm ready to see it Saturday though cause I heard it was a very exciting fight.

The live fight of Saturday night will be Vernon Forrest vs. Carlos Baldomir in a battle of the former champs. Both in different stages of rejuvenation. Baldomir at the end of his cinderella run, and Forrest coming back from being a champ years removed. I think VF will be slow enough to give Baldomir some of his confidence back after getting humiliated by my boy PFB!

Let's get the sports heads poppin up in this bitch again. I'm one of the only live mods on here, so my section needs to be jumpin damn you!

Man I love ESPN classic, seeing old school Tyson fights is sick, I'm convinced noone could beat that dude in his early game.

I'd like to see Ali in his prime or Jack Johnson vs Young Tyson.
Enigma
Ali AND Jack Johnson would have beaten Tyson. The better match of the two of those would have been Ali though. It would have been kinda like seeing a more ferocious Frazier/Ali bout. Only thing with Tyson has always been that his hungry, violent style of fighting is a polar opposite to him having heart. If he had the heart to match those other skills, he'd have been unstoppable. Ali was good enough to withstand Foreman's onslaught.....I think he could've handled Tyson's too.

dry.gif ..... ph34r.gif ..... dry.gif
NAZGUL
I think I have to agree with you there dude.

Now what about Ali vs Johnson (both in their prime).....Damn, I can only imagine what an epic battle that would've been.
