Currently, I have been listening to a lot of Goapele & Mary J Blige. I bump my Mariah Carey cd to death even though I still think Charm Bracelet was one of her best and most slept on. Just started to listen to Keyshia Cole..she had to grow on me.

I never really got into Tamia or Tamar...but Toni Braxton has one of the smoothest voices. She really doesn't get the due she deserves all because her label fails to market her correctly.

They stopped promoting Toni after she got married and had children..now how sad is that! And yeah..they're always looking for the next pretty-young-thang to shove down our throats. That's why those who are really into music and appreciate genuine talent have to dig thru all the junk to find treasure.

I think too many female rnb artists are getting out there and many of them really dont have anything special, no striking, distinguishable voice, range, songwriting skills etc which I look for in a female artist.
I like Mary J Blige, shes got a really powerful voice and can portray emotion through it without it sounding forced or fake.
Mariah Carey has an amazing vocal range, however there is such a thing as excessive warbling...
I think Joss Stone has a nice voice, its quite husky and deep which is a change.

Toni Braxton is constantly in rotation in my car...
Here Debut & greatest hits C.D's are must-haves!..
Then, of course, Ms.Anita Baker aka Ms.Detroit..Her Rapture and Greatest Hits albums..
Jill Scott...The Beautifully Human album & Who is Jill Scott..Classic albums..
Mary is nice and all, but she is too depressing for me...Same with Keisha Cole..2 excellent singers, but just too damn depressing..I like "happy" R&B" music..Something to get me through the day on a high note, not the "im sad for no reason" R&B music...lmao

I was diggin through my CD collection last week and found Adriana Evans' self-titled album from '96 or '97 I think. I forgot how tight this CD was. If you like good R&B music you should check it out.
I also dig "How I Do" by Res, although I don't know if it really classifies as R&B because it's a big mish-mash of Neo Soul, Hip Hop, Rock, and Pop but it's a dope album.

I like Keyshia Coles voice...but I can't STAND HER FUCKING CD!! I sayin...the single she got out.."Love" is the ONLY song on there that is not male bashing! I got that cd for my girl cause she likes her..and now she play that shit and be singin...and singin to me, then I get pissed cause I don't want somebody singin...I SHOULD'VE CHEATED, I CHANGED MY MIND, and shit like that to me. She don't get it cause she say it's her voice she likes...but damnit sing that shit to the windshield and not me. LMAO
I'd just like to hear her on another type of song like some uplifting shit..or something positive..not just a whole cd of male bashing.

The shit was under promoted here in the states too which is sad because I thought it was one of if not THE best R&B album of 2004.
That's surprising because usually if such a great album wasn't getting shine in the states that means it's getting a considerable amount of love overseas. Plus she's on TVT with Lil Jon and The Ying Yang Twins and I guess they chose to put all of their promotion muscle into those acts. She should leave TVT and sign with a more R&B oriented label.
