There isn't one, dey're interchangable titles. Rapper became the more prevalent term in the mid 90's. For example erybody called the person sayin rhymes when hip-hop first started the emcee but back den he really was an emcee he told about events introduced people shouted out da dj, and all that talkin was called rappin, As the emcee started going to the front and dj started takin a back seat they began to be referred as rappers. By the time most of our generation of artists grew up. They heard emcees referred to as rappers as they became rappers/emcees themselves they called themselves rappers.

my opinion is that.....a rapper is
someone who writes club lyrics
and talks about money, bitches, ect.
........an Emcee is someone who
has lyrical talent and skill, and
writes meaningfull lyrics. so........
50cent=rapper , Nas=Emcee

See we want these terms to mean different things and to some they do,

but emcee = rapper like Litigator = lawyer

Do you undastand that by the defintion of an emcee and rapper you have provided.

these are all rappers: Jay-Z, Nas, Tupac ,Biggie, Rakim, all of these rappers talk about money more often than meaningful.

these are all emcees: Chuck D and Dead Presidents would be the only emcees.


Why is it when Jay-Z or Nas talk about shootin someone or fuckin bitches or money they get free passes, but a 50 cent or TI does it he only raps about money?

So Run Dmc what are they emcees or rappers? We all know that if he puts his mind to it TI can out rap these guys all day. The Furious Five were considered emcees but other than the message what else truly meaningful do they talk bout?
