The 2016 Rio Summer Olympics kick off this Friday, Aug. 5, in Brazil. To commemorate the legendary sporting event, Jordan Brand is set to unleash an alternate version of the Air Jordan 7 “Olympic” that will tie in with this year's summer games in Rio.

Inspired by Michael Jordan’s incredible performance at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the Jumpman unveils a similar version of the Air Jordan 7 "Olympic" shoe with a number of changes. Dressed in the patriotic colorways of red, white and blue, mixed with gold and silver metallic accents, this AJ 7 features a white premium leather upper with hits of deep blue on the shoes underlays. This Air Jordan 7 “Alternate” is said to be one of the colorways that the Jordan Brand was considering releasing during the 1992 Olympics, but plans changed for the American sportswear company and the end result was MJ balling in the classic “Olympic” version.

The Air Jordan VII Retro "Alternate" will be available in full family sizing on Saturday, Aug 6. Stay tuned to XXL for more information on Jordan Brand product launches and check out detailed images of this week's Air Jordan sneaker release below.
