Can it be that it was all so simple then?

New York City was already home base for Polo collectors and boosters back in the late '80s. When Ralphie dropped the Cold Wave collection, 'lo heads went at it. In particular, pieces donning the “Snow Beach” insignia were exchanging hands like hot cakes. Then the visuals dropped for Wu-Tang Clan's “Can It Be All So Simple” in ’94, and Raekwon unknowingly helped cement the Snow Beach pullover into Polo and hip-hop history. Today, this pullover is a holy grail for many and easily fetches numbers north of $1,000 on eBay. Other entertainers like Chris Brown and Frank Ocean have been seen with it, but no one’s rocked it hardbody like The Chef since.

This past Thursday at Webster Hall’s Grand Ballroom, over 20 years later, avid 'lo collector Just Blaze teamed up with Packer Shoes to release a Snow Beach-themed Saucony Grid 9000. The sneaker features hits of yellow, red, and navy just like the pullover, complete with a customized shoebox. Packer is also set to drop a set of Snow Beach crowns from expert hat makers, The Rohe Project.

The party kicked off with Queens rap duo Timeless Truth, who were fresh off their LP Wavelength with Large Professor, and dropped lyrical bombs throughout their set. Just Blaze hit the crowd with '90s classics before bringing out a slew of surprise guests. Lil Cease, Cormega, Lil Fame, Cappadonna, and Ghostface all blessed the stage with Rae. The good ol’ days, the good ol’ days, it was NYC hip-hop at its best. A night to remember for the hip-hop heads, the Polo enthusiasts, and the sneaker collectors alike.
