Vans, the original action sports footwear and apparel brand joins hands with Della, a socially responsible fashion company to release a capsule of footwear and accessories for the spring season. This collaboration with Vans creates an opportunity to heighten the awareness of Della’s dedication to empowering the women of the Volta Region of Ghana, West Africa.

Tina Tangalakis, founder and creative director for Della, started the company after she fell in love with Ghana during a volunteer program she joined in 2009. She quickly became enamored with the culture and utilized her background in business and design to begin Della. Today, the company provides the opportunity to build a foundation for a better life through jobs, education and skills training by employing over 50 women to create handcrafted textiles using sustainable materials from the Ghana region. The Vans x Della partnership launches a six-piece footwear capsule for men and women with an accessories offering to match.

Vans tapped into Della’s team of designers to handcraft fabrics through a local batik process to create one-of-a-kind prints that were blended on the Vans classic Sk8-Hi Reissue, Era, Authentic, Sk8-Hi Slim and the two new accessory silhouettes, a large hobo bag and wristlet clutch. The rich colors of the fabric are inspired by the landscape and culture of the region. Vivid shades of blue, yellow, red and green mimic the riverbanks and tree lines found in Volta. The tri-tone heart print pulls together tones of pink, magenta and purple that embodies the heart and soul put into the construction of these hand crafted materials.
