Remember Tekken Tag Tournament? Hard to believe it’s been over 10 years since Namco released their fighting game commonly referred as TTT and now in 2012 they present the sequel, Tekken Tag Tournament 2. With all the charm and 3D combat mechanics found in its predecessor intact, fans of the series will find themselves right at home.

One thing about that’s always held true about the Tekken series, you’ll never master all of the moves at each character’s disposable. It’s damn near impossible with some fighters having more than 100 moves in their arsenal. You’re better off trying to master a handful of moves and rolling from there. To help you in reaching the goal of becoming a martial arts master TTT 2 features a Fight Lab mode which replaces the traditional story mode. In Fight Lab you’ll be thrust into the role of the Combot, a creation of Violet Industries that can learn any Tekken fighter’s techniques and use them in training exercises. The lessons cover the basics of offense, defense and movement. Newcomers and vets alike will find it helpful in sharpening their combat skills.

At the core of the game is the fighting itself and in typical Tekken style it is fast and furious. Adding to the action is the new Tag Assault system which enables you to tag in your partner while your opponent is in the air, making him or her vulnerable to multiple air juggling combos.

While a perfectly legal tactic, it’s understandable how some would find it frustrating when their character is getting hammered in the air unable to break the combo. This is where the unbalance of TTT 2 comes into play. A freshman would stand no chance playing against a vet and most likely would tap out after a few bouts. With a gigantic roster of 44 fighters, it will take you some time to truly master the strengths and weaknesses of the characters.

Overall Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is fun. With so many options to choose from including the standard versus mode, practice mode, Pair Play, online and Survival Mode, this is a worthy sequel with tons of replay value. —DJ Rhude (@DJRhude)
