Earlier this month, the Hip-Hop Unplugged Series concluded its first year, narrowing three finalists down to one winner.

Ashton Travis was given the honor by five judges, including MTV's Sway and Lenny Santiago, VP of A&R and Def Jam. “You are a star," said Santiago, cosigning the young rapper.

Travis, a Houston native, is currently a sophomore at Howard University, and working on his third mixtape, titled Good Vibes and set for release next year.

Saigon, whose long-awaited album The Greatest Story Never Told will be released early next year, was also in attendance.
