Dr. Dre Using “Mafia Wars” Game to Promote Detox

We told you on our most recent cover, and we’re telling you again: Detox is coming.

Dr. Dre has partnered with game developer Zynga to integrate his music into the game “Mafia Wars,” which is a multi-player video game played across the internet. Here are some of the details, courtesy of Billboard:

“The video [for 'Kush'] will appear as part of a ‘Hustlin’ Wit Dre’ portion of the game, which allows players to collect Dre-inspired virtual goods—like headphones, weapons and a car—as well as watch both the music video and an exclusive video message from Dre himself. Players can also enter to win a pair of Beats By Dre headphones and a signed copy of his new CD, which is expected to come out early next year. Finally, there will be a link in the game to buy the single ‘Kush’ on iTunes.”

Earlier in the year, Zynga partnered with Snoop Dogg, who also serves as one of Dre’s collaborators on “Kush.”

“Mafia Wars” reportedly has 19 million players a month on Facebook and the iPhone. —Adam Fleischer

Yeah, Dre on Mafia Wars made that game a little more interesting. I was starting to get annoyed with all of those pop-up ads interrupting my play.

I can’t knock what seems to be an ok business move, but i’m addin my two cents for sure…
Instead of promoting thru games and shit, why not try to promote your album with more music!?!?!
Kush was an ok track… but its not enough to get people out of the crib to buy the album…
Especially after he said its the only track of its nature on the whole album… why not release music for free to get people back in the groove of listenin to u as a fan.

    just my opinion tho…

i’m buyin the album already only cause i buy every cd that has potential to be good, not cause u advertising it in mafia wars.
