Halloween might be over but that doesn’t mean the monsters still aren’t out. Over the weekend, Nicki Minaj, rather her alter ego Roman Zolanski, released her highly anticipated collaboration with the one and only Slim Shady (aka Eminem) “Roman’s Revenge.” On the Swizz Beatz-produced track, Nicki finally fired back at her detractors. While the Young Money princess doesn’t name names Lil’ Kim and Keys are likely her primary targets. (“Look at my show footage, how these girls be spazzin’/So fuck I look like gettin’ back to a has-been?/Yeah, I said it, has-been/Hang it up, flat screen/[Ha-ha] Plasma).

With the introduction of Nicki’s new split personality and the Busta Rhymes-inspired hook (“Raar, raar, like a dungeon dragon”), it continues hip-hop’s ghoulish trend of aggressive content. After dubbing himself a monster on 808 & Heartbreaks’ “Amazing,” Kanye West took it to another with the release of the appropriately titled “Monster,” where Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Nicki all spazzed on the track—but the crown went to Minaj.

Maybe it was Halloween fever but it seems like now everyone is on that monster shit, while keeping it all in the family. That got us to thinking about the first family of monsters, The Munsters. The 1960’s sitcom was a wholesome clan of outcasts trying to fit in the modern world. We found a correlation between some of the characters and hip-hop’s new brand of monster MCs.

JAY-Z AS HERMAN MUNSTER

At the head of the Munsters’ family tree is none other than Herman, who earned a living as a mortician. As we all know, Jigga has had to “dig a hole” or two in his time. Another correlation between the two imposing figures is that Herman fought in World War II, while Jay has had numerous battles where he came out victorious. Like his TV counterpart, Mr. Carter appears almost immovable—a number of times, rappers have run into him without causing him injury.

NICKI MINAJ AS LILY MUNSTER

As the daughter of Dracula, Lily Munster has the potential to pack quite a bite, which Nicki proves more and more with each guest appearance. Ready to draw blood with every bar, she still manages to maintain her feminine appeal. As the only female in a crew full of dudes, Minaj plays the part of matriarch well.

KANYE WEST AS EDDIE MUNSTER

Often referring to Jay-Z as his “big brother” and an only child in real life, Kanye falls right in line as Herman’s mini-me, Eddie. Part werewolf from his mother’s side, the younger Munster was portrayed as the all-American boy but could let the fangs come out when need be. Don’t cross Mr. West or he’ll get howlin’ mad.

EMINEM AS GRANDPA MUNSTER

Similar to Slim Shady, Grandpa has an extremely sarcastic personality that also crossed the line of perverse. If you’ve listened to Em’s catalog over the years then you know that fits him to a tee. Add in the fact that Grandpa loved going in to his lab to cook up some crazy concoctions you’ve got a perfect match.

LIL KIM AS MARILYN MUNSTER

While Lily was the ghoulish housewife, her live-in niece, Marilyn, was the complete opposite. Often viewed as “normal” or a “plain Jane” by the rest of the Munsters, she was into their creepy antics just the same. Similarly, Lil’ Kim has always been the around the way girl that rolled with the bad boys. More glammed up than her peers, she somehow finds herself as the family outcast. Plus, they both have that Marilyn Monroe look going on with the blonde hair, blue eyes and beauty mark.

BUSTA RHYMES AS SPOT

This one’s a no-brainer. Eddie Munster had a pet fire-breathing dragon that lived under the hallway stairs; if that doesn’t sound like Busta Rhymes’ dungeon dragon persona then we don’t know what is. Besides, you know Busta spits hot fire.
