People can relate and respect Snoop Dogg because of his gang affiliation, but that’s the problem- how can he and or other individuals who glorify gang culture stop others from joining gangs? When artists brag and market gang culture in their music, wave rags in TV appearances etc. then turn around and say ‘don’t do it’ gives out a mixed message to say the very least. A lot of this country’s gang culture is an imitation of American gang culture, so Snoop Dogg in that respect may be a credible individual to speak out against it. But even though Snoop is an ‘inactive’ Crip, I don’t think he will be too effective in hindering gang activity here when he, record company companies and others are still producing the same material which may be partially responsible for gang culture in some instances. Surely the serious step he should take would be to stop promoting gang culture in his music first.
