Lil’ Kim’s Hard Core vs. Foxy Brown’s Ill Na Na

Fun fact: Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown both dropped their debut albums, Ill Na Na and Hardcore, respectively, this very month 15 years ago.

The two Brooklyn femcees changed the game. Down with two of the biggest crews in hip-hop (Lil’ Kim with the Biggie-helmed Junior M.A.F.I.A. and Foxy Brown with Nas’ The Firm), Kim and Fox laid the blueprint for the hyper-sexualized, ride-or-die, street savvy, brand-name-dropping rapstress.

Now, over a decade since the two hit the scene and on the eve of Ill Na Na‘s 15-year anniversary (Kim’s Hard Core dropped just a week before on Nov. 12), XXL looks back at Fox Boogie and the Queen Bee’s contributions to hip-hop and breaks down their two legendary sets by the numbers. Salute!—Gina Montana
