You are not independant unless you are funding the studio time, paying the producers, designing the CD artwork, sending the CD to Press Duplication, and getting it distributed to major outlets…if you are not doing that, you are under a major umbrella that is taking money from you. The will pay $150k for production and charge you $250k, they will pay $40k for duplication/replication and charge you $65k-so if you are under an arm like Aftermath & Cash Money (Universal)-Roc Nation (Atlantic) Disturbing Da Peace (Def Jam) then, when you make money, they make money. Cut out the middle and make some money.

Universal owns Cash Money and Aftermath. Atlantic owns Roc Nation. Not one of those labels is truly independent. Everyone of them goes through a major distributor.

He don’t really seem bitter and he right about the majors, the ones that distribute Aftermath,and Cashmoney they only care about a select few artist b/c they know they’ll generate some kind of revenue for the label, but a lot of artist are goin’ indie b/c the majors rape you the hardest…but it’s all about knowin’ your business stay on your grind wit’ your shows to get your fans as well as behind the scenes wit’ dem labels

I am glad Mannie and Mystikal will be makin a CD together. No more dealing with Master P or Birdman. Those was haters at first. Mannie need to come out with new Ideas on Beat Makin. I’ve always liked Mannie. But I have to admit something. Dude isn’t too intelligent about his business. For example…. There are 3 independently owned labels that are moving major units right now. They are CASH MONEY, ROC NATION, and AFTERMATH. So knowing that, you could argue that CASH MONEY is a major force in the rap game (relatively speaking). So if you want to generate business for your new label, why would you allow yourself to be exploited by magazines to say something negative about CASH MONEY? Yeah, HIP-HOP WEEKLY exploited the situation. But people… Read this article again. XXL just did the same thing (but in a more sly way). Mannie continues to answer these questions and therefore he is doing himself and his new business a disservice. Because not only is CASH MONEY a force, but they have the ear of the industry. They will bad-mouth Mannie to other industry forces. It’s chess…not checkers. Mannie, if you want to better your business, be quiet and let the facts speak for themselves. Trust me…. With the way people are starting to sue CASH MONEY, you don’t need to say “I told you so”. Everyone will see. Stop doing interviews with people that want to know about CASH MONEY. Talk up your businesses and use the connections you have established to get your hustle tight. You clearly have emotions about CASH MONEY. Control your emotions. Revealing them in interviews is what bitches do. Real Talk.
