Web Candy Of The Week: Bella Red

Date: Feb. 6, 2013

Canada native Bella Red is no stranger to the industry or to controversy. She's been featured on Angela Yee's radio show, Latin Ink Magazine, and countless other high-profile magazines and blogs, but she's taken a bit of a sabbatical to give birth to her beautiful daughter.

Now, however, she's back and better—and badder—than ever, poised to take the industry by storm once again, and she took a few minutes to tell us about her past, her present, and her future.

On the biggest lesson learned in modeling...

The biggest lesson I learned in this industry is to focus on yourself and your career.

What does she do? TURN UP!

A typical day would be party all day and night, and do it all over again the next day. That's mainly what you do as a model—you get paid to party.

On her proudest accomplishments...

I have worked with Frank Antonio and 2020 Photography. You can check me out in Straight Stuntin' magazine, and in the Travis Porter ft. Wale video called "My Team Winning." Of course, you can also Google me—MissBellaRed—and see what other work I have done.

On the best personal advice she's ever received...

The best advice I have ever received was "Do what you think is right."

On what she would tell aspiring models...

Follow your dreams never give up. Nothing in life is handed to you. You have to work hard to play hard, don't ever let anyone tell you you're not good enough. Prove them wrong.

Italian Kisses 01

Web Candy Of The Week: Italian Kisses

Date: Feb. 13, 2013

The model known as Italian Kisses is the perfect mix of Italian and African-American, and her perfect assets combine the best of both worlds. Best known for her work in Sweets magazine, this young model talks about her crush on Bow Wow, her two diverse but wonderful cultures, and the best advice she’s ever received.

You’re Italian and African-American. Can you tell us what each culture has taught you?
Being from Memphis, of course the African-American culture is strong, but the different side of me would be my Italian side because it’s something that makes me different. I love both of my cultures. They truly are different but have the same principles.

What would you say is your biggest modeling accomplishment to date? What would you like to see happen for you in 2013?
I would say it would be joining the IBMM family, shooting with Ice Box Studios and doing Sweets/FEDS magazines. I am starting to get published more, but what makes it all worthwhile is that I finally have my own family in this industry to back me as I am chasing my dreams.

How did you get started in modeling?
I got started by doing YouTube videos just dancing and having a great time. A friend of mine told me I should start modeling, so I booked my first serious shoot with Derrick Clegg and the rest is history.

Who is your celebrity crush, and why?
I would say Bow Wow because I grew up listening to him and I still think he is sexy to me.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
No matter how it goes down, life goes on. This meant a lot to me, because life throws you a lot of curve balls. Growing up, I use to look at XXL magazine and many of these other publications but I would never think that I would have a chance to grace their magazines or sites. So, I really feel that things happen for reasons, both good and bad. I love life and I learn how to grow from the bad experiences every day.

Tell us what you like to do when you’re not modeling?
I am actually a homebody. I love to watch TV, listen to music and just chill. There are so many things always going on that when I get a chance to myself, I love to just enjoy it with my family and friends.

If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring model, what would it be and why?
Don’t give up. There will be plenty of obstacles trying to stop you from succeeding but they will teach you how to win in the end. Also, a team is vital because they make a lot of things easier in the end when it comes to getting your brand out there and keeping you on track. – Bernadette Giacomazzo (@bgiacomazzo)

Web Candy Of The Week: Shayna Kelly

Date: Feb. 27, 2013

Most of the time, I take suggestions from my male colleagues about who I should feature—and interview—for Web Candy, but occasionally, I get some great submissions directly from aspiring—and established—models who are interested in becoming XXL‘s Web Candy of the Week. Shayna Kelly is one such model who contacted me directly with some sizzling hot photos. I could tell just by looking at her, that this girl was going to be lots of fun to talk to…and I was right! Best known for her work in Black Men’s Magazine, this Windy City wonder talked to me about meeting Twista, being all-natural, and trying new food.

Tell us about yourself. Who are you? What do you do (both in modeling, and when you’re not modeling)?

My name is Shayna Kelly and I’m from Chicago. I’m known for gracing magazine pages showing off my beautiful tattoos, which are more than two-dozen, beautiful red roses. When I’m not modeling, I’m either shopping or going to different restaurants, trying new foods and wines.

What would you say was your greatest accomplishment in modeling? What would you say was your greatest accomplishment outside of modeling?

My greatest accomplishment in modeling was when I made my debut in Black Men’s Magazine “Ink Candy” Issue #2. It opened up so many doors for me and took me to the next level.

One of my accomplishments outside of the modeling world would have to be me getting into fitness.  It’s not all about looking good, but feeling good and healthy. Not only does physical activity improve your strength, but it also boosts your endurance. When you work out, your brain chemistry changes, leaving you happier and relaxed all day.

What was your best celebrity experience?

My best celebrity experience was when I met Twista. I was picked to do a music video but I didn’t know who the artist was going to be and when I arrived on set, I was pleasantly surprised. I grew up listening to all his songs, so when I met him on set of his video, I couldn’t believe how cool and down to earth he was. Plus, the video turned out great, and I was, of course, the lead.

Who is your celebrity crush, and why?

My celebrity crush would have to be Lou Williams from the Atlanta Hawks. I just have a thing for tall, handsome men with good hair. Plus, I think it’s extra sexy that he plays ball and raps.

What qualities do you look for in a man?

A good sense of humor, big heart, and most of all, intelligence.

What makes you stand out from all the other models in your area?

I’m all-natural! I don’t wear weave, I don’t have implants, and no butt injections. Not to mention, I’m a size 3, but I’m making a lot of noise in the Eye Candy world…

Web Candy Of The Week: Panama Pink

Date: March 13, 2013

Panama Pink is a Brooklyn bombshell with a golden look–once you meet her, you never forget her! But she’s not your typical model–she’s done some high-end work, including a video shoot for a few overseas artists. I recently had a chance to sit down with this unique beauty, where we talked about Ginuine, 50 Cent, and the most important man in the world: Her son!

Tell us about yourself. Who are you? What do you do (both in modeling and when you’re not modeling)?

I’m a young mother from Brooklyn, and I do home care for elderly during the week. It’s a very tiring job and I need time to be at home. The rest of the days I work at night, as a dancer–I prefer gentlemen’s clubs versus strip clubs, because it’s more of a calm environment.

What would you say was your greatest accomplishment in modeling? What would you say was your greatest accomplishment outside of modeling?

I actually have two accomplishments I’m very proud of. One was getting to work alongside 50 Cent at his SMS audio release event. Very upscale, and I got to meet many important and amazing people. The other one was a video shoot I did overseas. I was contacted by a recording group from another country. They were sent info for many models but they picked me and they came all the way here to shoot with me. I flew in a helicopter for the first time too! Talk about scary.

Outside of modeling, my biggest accomplishment is my son. He’s in the second grade and is the student president. He’s always excelling in academics and surprises me almost every day with how intelligent he is. I’m too proud of him.

What was your best celebrity experience?

That would have to be at Club Iguana’s in Miami, 2009. We were in VIP next to Ginuine. I grew up on him, and all of my friends did as well. We asked him to take pics with us and he was on me tighter than a lace front. He’s so handsome. I don’t do the groupie thing, so I’ve never really had a bad celeb experience. However, I don’t like when artists and other celebs are too arrogant. It’s a big turn off.

What qualities do you look for in a man?

Strong, rational, independent, intelligent, good with his hands, handsome, and established in some way in life.

What makes you stand out from all the other models in your area?

The things that make me stand out as a model, especially these days, are my height (I’m 6’2? in heels) and also my all-naturalness (from my hair to my fingernails). I also think it’s my mix. Not too many girls have a mix like mine.

What are your social media outlets? (I.E., where can we find you on Twitter, FB, etc.)

Web Candy Of The Week: Angel Bites

Date: Sept. 26, 2013

Angel Bites came referred, highly, by New Orleans radio host B. Rich Brinson, who hosts a great podcast every night featuring the best of independent artists and models. And he certainly has good taste. In this interview, the lovely Angel and I talked about who would win in a fight between Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, life in New Orleans, and where she sees herself in five years. ?Bernadette Giacomazzo (@berngiacomazzo)

Tell us about yourself. Who are you? What do you do?

I am Angel Bites , I am an all around entertainer?from modeling to rapping, to singing and acting, I do it all & I love it!

What would you say was your favorite gig, as a model, to date? What would you say was the worst gig you've had as a model to date?

My favorite gig as a model would have to be the fashion show back in New Orleans in 2011. The worst gig I've had as a model would be going to a photo shoot and everything being unorganized?from the location to not having the right camera, to the photos coming out dull. It was a mess but I managed to get through it.

What makes you stand out from all of the other models in your area?

The difference between me and all of the other models in my area is my ambition. I don't model just to be seen?I do it because I love it, I work hard and won't stop till I'm at the top, and even then I'm still going.  People can spot me in a crowd full of people the way I stand is different the way I walk is different and the way I carry myself is respectable? I'm a God-fearing, talented young lady walking by faith.

When you're not modeling, what do you like to do?

When I'm not modeling, I love to research and educate myself. I also love to crack jokes, write songs, shop, and cook.

Who is your celebrity crush, and why?

I actually have two celebrity crushes: Rihanna and Nicki Minaj! It's just something about them?from the ass to the cockiness to the attitude and boss status, It just does something to me and they both are outrageous and don't give a fuck. I love that in a person,

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years I see myself on the cover of all the major magazines, on the big screen with lead roles, owning a couple of businesses, my music being played on the radio, and giving back to the community.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do when you’re not modeling?

I recently graduated from VCU with a Mass Communications Degree and Business minor.  I’m a huge fan of kickboxing and staying fit.  At heart I’m a true hipster and I listen to and love all types of music. I love anything adventurous and meeting new people.  On the flip, I love chilling with my close friends, whether having drinks or watching movies.  Last but not least I love being anywhere near moving water, whether it’s the river or the beach, it’s my ultimate therapy.

How did you get into the modeling industry?

Modeling had always been a passion of mines but living in RVA it was hard to find a way to get started and actually find work.  Weird story, I was due for my annual physical and there was a substitute nurse on duty that day who just so happened to be the owner of Model Connection.  Things took off from there and I did a lot of bridal modeling making it to Richmond Bride Magazine as well as alcohol promotion.

What would you say is the biggest misconception about you?

That I’m stuck up or bougie.  I’m honestly a little shy around big groups of people and can be socially awkward at times.  It tends to come off as otherwise.

What would you say was your greatest accomplishment in modeling? What would you say was your greatest accomplishment outside of modeling?

So far making XXL Web Candy is my greatest accomplishment.  I loved bridal modeling but it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do with modeling.  Since rebranding as Maya Camille, it was a definite shocker to many and I was taking a huge risk with image reputation, so being recognized by a publication like XXL I’m extremely grateful. My greatest accomplishment outside of modeling would definitely be graduating from school.  There were countless times I was ready to quit but with supportive friends and family I made it.

Who is your favorite Hip-Hop artist out now? Why?

Party Next Door—His sound is a breath of fresh air; it’s different from anything out right now.  His style is very chill but his content is very relatable and catchy.

Who is your celebrity crush, and why?

Trey Songz. He’s the definition of a beautiful chocolate man.  “If It’s Hood that You Want” still makes me melt and he’s from VA, I have to represent.

What are your biggest turn-ons?

Confidence, Style, Independence, Ruthlessness—I love a man that says and does exactly what he wants.

What are your biggest turn-offs?

Being overly confident and too aggressive, closed mindedness, him having any female traits and dirty nails

What qualities do you look for in a man?

Someone who is open to trying new things, someone who listens and is consistent and does the little things to keep the relationship fresh and exciting.  He also has to make me laugh, that’s a must. I love goofiness.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully on a bigger platform in the entertainment industry.  I still want to model but get more into pop culture involving more fashion, film and television.

What is a Fun Fact about yourself?

I love raves. I have a huge love for electronic, dub step and EDM.

Any advice you would give women?

Always network and make connections, but never depend on anyone else but yourself to get the job done.  You’d be surprised how much you can do alone.

I'm also studying marketing to push my book, Game Green. It’s a hustle how to—based on the strip club & sugar daddy business. It teaches sales, business communications, how to budget, save & invest into your own business or career.  It also introduces a two year plan to get you closer to retirement. Its basically a book on how i’m running my career now (Lulu.com search Game Green) and then i'm also in the studio as a rap artist or writing. When I'm not modeling, I'm working with Dabzpv, a personal vaporizer company. I am also starting a clothing line, and working on my own strain of cannabis at the moment. Projects that are very close to me.

What would you say was your greatest accomplishment in modeling? What would you say was your greatest accomplishment outside of modeling?

Mostly being able to stay me and stand by my values in this industry. Men like when you leave some to the imagination.

Who is your favorite Hip-Hop artist out now? Why?

You can be the most beautiful man and I won't bother if your personality/heart doesn't match the outside.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself with a few successful companies and living a happy life in San Diego

What is a Fun Fact about yourself?

I was given an award from George Bush Jr. for my outstanding community service for working with troubled children
