I disagree what you’re saying about the “N” word. I actually think everyone should use it, including white kids…In trademark law, companies protect their “brands” by making sure nobody uses their name/trademark without their permission and only in the context they want it to be used. In fact, a brand name will lose it’s legal protection if it does not aggressively go after and stop people from misusing its brand name. Also, using a trademarke protected brand name in different contexts can result in what’s called “dilution” or making the once brand name, “generic” (see, aspirin, for example).

My position is, let’s dilute the “N” word. Racist people will always use it. So instead of keeping the word’s original trademark in tact, and thus keeping it potently offensive, eveyrone should use it. Imagine, if all white kids were allowed to use it as a term of endearment, the way black youth use it? It would lose it’s meaning, and make any racially charged use of it seem silly.

Who are you talking to, and what specifically are you talking about?

What up TPAR? Just the other day I was thinking of bringing it back, but honestly, I’m not gonna be that dude. My philosophy is Keep It Moving. There ain’t anything left for Herbz to accomplish with that word. There’s always been a small push to make it mainstream enough that it loses the sting, but any damn word out of context can be offensive, so it may lessen the impact, but won’t accomplish an all out taming of the word.

            OG Matt Herbz,

What it does. Good to hear from you. Do you not see any merit in what I’m saying? Or is there something I need to clarify?

Also, peep the few tracks I put up, click my name…and come through XXL more often…there are only a few critical thinking cats around here these days.

TPAR you’re an idiot. Black Americans keep pulling out this “We’re reclaiming/& or diluting the ‘n’ word argument. As long as a non-black person uses that word, black people will and should get offended; I know I do. I don’t even think black people should use it but if anyone does it should be us and it should stay there

        JAdrianww,

Calling me an idiot isn’t nice. Didn’t your mother teach you any manners? Or did she not have time working full time in the “dollar for a holler” brothel?

In any event, is it your position that a white person who uses the “N” word with the “er” at the end, in a dergatory context is the same as a white person who uses it the same way black youth use it amongst each other, as a term of endearment? Is there any difference between the two uses?
