It depends on what label he recorded for when he recorded said “lost” tracks. By default, that’s Columbia since he’s technically still w. them via the joint label contract. At the end of the day though, I don’t give a shit about label affiliations, as long as the music is bangin’.

Why does Nas need to advance in his career? He’s in the all time top 10 of the greatest rappers that ever lived. Illmatic, It was written, I AM , Nostradamus, Stillmatic, God’s Son, Hip hop is dead, The N, and Distant Relatives??? He can live off royalties for the rest of his life if wanted to. He’s executive producer of almost every album, check the credits. He paid his dues so its only right that he gets the respect he deserves.

Def Jam should release the record. I think after Nas wrote that letter it brought more attention to it and now Def Jam has to release it or they will probably be bashed for not releasing it. But as Nas said: Who really cares what company releases a record anyway?
It’s all about the music

I would say I’m a pretty big fan of Nas’ music, so I would buy LP2. I haven’t been his last two records (Distant Relatives & N**ger).
I read that Pete Rock has a joint on there which is another great reason to buy it.

I was thinking the other day that if someone like Nas or someone like that had released something like really good within a couple weeks of OB4CL2 real hip hop would have gained another step. I’m hoping maybe this album will have a similiar effect

As for the letter: its publishing and two mentions of it here tells me that this is probably all promotion for Lost Tapes 2.

Beef with the record label is the new beaf. 50 should have thought of this.

I wanna hear the album badly, but from a business standpoint, I can see why the label wouldn’t be so enthused. They would rather have him put out new material to appeal to the younger audience. Let’s face it, the same kids that bought Thank me later,Telfon Don, or even Recovery are not checking for old Nas songs. Put it out as a free download, you’d get about a million downloads, you’ll build anticipation for a new album and if half of those people buy it you’ll go gold. There’s the problem too, Nas doesnt come out enough. He drops an album every 3-4 years with no mixtapes in between.

Why don’t the superstars of the game form their own distribution company and record label to put out their own music and take their own chances. They’re the ones in the studio late at night putting together good music just for an executive to tell u they’re going to hold off on it. Take your own chance and distribute your own music….and then maybe that’ll stop the leaks.
