Fernando just has been burned too many times by DJs without skills. Once you hear the difference, you’ll understand the difference a good DJ actually makes on a mixtape. I’ve listened to songs that I thought I hated and ended up loving when the DJ made the song better and actually made me like it. Good DJs add excitment and spice to music. Some of them add too much spice which as you know can ruin the meal as well. And some just don’t have the skills the equivilant off adding the wrong spice.

You need to check out DJs that actually go to town on their mixtapes and their mixes. I suggest you check out http://www.djemir.com, http://www.djcraze.com and http://www.sergsniper.com for some serious mixing and scratching.

Let’s be real here: not only do people in general not buy major-label “mixtapes” by DJs, but they barely go to the stores and buy anybody’s sh** anymore for that matter. In this new era, DJs end up bearing the brunt worse than anyone in terms of that lack of sales. Bottom line is that mixtape DJs–popular or not–are more successful on the underground level because they’re better at breaking artists who haven’t made it to the major level yet or known artists who are building up attention for themselves as relevant rappers. Funkmaster Flex and DJ Clue are probably two of the few DJs that have really sold records like that, and that was years ago when they were going gold and platinum. Kay Slay’s joints were pretty solid releases in terms of quality songs, but he didn’t have as much face time as his fellow DJs to really sell his album like that. If Bol’s assessment of mixtape DJs in general not producing any “actual results” is referring to generating street buzz and respect for unknown or established artists, then his rant might be a little off. However, if we’re talking selling records, then I really can’t argue with him on that one.

Mixtape DJ’s come a dime a dozen. How many MDJ’s bring anything to the game except I Know (Insert Favorite Rapper Name) and he (or she) gave me this exclusive joint. 99% of the MF’s can’t even scratch and would be obliterated by Real DJ’s like Craze, Shadow, Qbert or any of the X-Ecutioners. The Cruddy Crap many of them push out to the masses is straight GARBAGE. Even if you can’t scratch can you at least have some kind of flow. I know 9yr old who put together better tapes. I’m willing to bet they can’t even rock a party.
