The Game has a unique ability to grow on you. The Doctor’s Advocate, just like The Documentary, is fraught with gangsta rap cliches and name-dropping ad nausuem. However, in amongst those played out rhymes are some really creative metaphors and some cryptic subliminal disses. One of his great strengths is his wide variety of flows, some bordering on mimicry or even outright impressions a la Aries Spiers. Again, though, he has his own sound and bites no more that Jay-Z ever did/does. The one thing he has clearly captured is the feeling of a classic west coast gansta rap song, and I can’t get enough. As far as the whole beef thing, I believe most or all hip hop “beefs” are manufactured. If Universal can create beefs between their top artists, they put themselves in a win-win situation. The Universal cartel is growing every day and now that Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, NaS, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Kanye West and Snoop Dogg are all collaborating with each other, small artists don’t even stand a chance. The Game got his name for a reason, it’s all game and the beefs/alliances The Game has puts him right in the middle of Jay-Z and Dr. Dre’s chess board. These guys are all in cahoots with one another and Jimmy Iovine and the frenchies @ Vivendi call the shots. Of course, I still think that if a rapper was involved in the 2 Pac and Biggie murders, it was Jay-Z (on both counts), so take it for what it’s worth. At least if he is as smart and ruthless as he claims in music he would have. He had to get rid of Pac in ’96 in order to start giving the summer some (Reasonable Doubt was a great album, but flopped cuz nobody cared; they were all waiting on the next 2 Pac album), and with Biggie gone competition was none and the slang-jack could commence. I don’t think this is reality, but it is logical if you believe what these guys say in their raps.
