Maybe some of the things I commented on weren’t exactly your words, but they were thoughts scattered around the posts above yours, so I’m not trying to pin a dramatic argument on you, just spreading my thoughts around those that tweaked me a little.

Those “people” who consider Give it to me a flashback classic joint are the same people who supposedly have a list of artists they do not support or play on their radio stations. Even tho it is taking one back a couple years in “flashback” fashion, i hardly think many of us would consider it an old school song.

I think both our arguments are missing the point now that I think about it, because for the most part we dont exactly control what we are marketed and force fed by the executives who put Mike Jones and D4L in heavy rotation and tried to bury artists like Ghost and the Lox.

i don’t consider medical benefits a “cheaper” alternative. shit, if i were in a, say, jay-z type position, i’d just as easily drop a kool g on fixing myself up. but because i [and likely you, as well as everyone else on this blog] aren’t in that higher tax bracket [which can afford us such meaningful things as spinning rims & blood diamonds], i personally think it’s economically efficient [read: it won't burn your pockets] to have said medical & dental benefits.

continuing on the topic of wealth, retirement is a much better plan for those individuals who do not make high five-up figures a year. while the average life expectancy & retirement age is increasing, it would also be wise to START INVESTING EARLY, so you don’t have to work til you’re 70.

and yes, i know what residual income is. i’m making some as i write this, by the way.

To be honest, I would MUCH rather have the financial where withal to be able to provide and pay for health care for myself and the ones I love than to “just” pay 10-20 dollars a visit. You may see it as a cheaper option, but to have to personally live and have the ones you love live with such care is a minimalist approach. Because there is more to medicine than a couple doctors visits and a prescription – Ever wonder why people who have money (and not a ‘health plan’) have better health service than those on a benefits plan?

I dont know If I can cosign your point on retirement. Retirement has already proven itself to be an issue both today and in the future, as the average age of retirement for the average employee is steadily rising and so is the life expectancy – the national retirement plans have not been adjusted to reflect this fact.
So what would you rather have, a 401k or residual income? If you even know what residual income is.

Im sorry for not making it clearer, but the “80′s baby” ranges in age from 26 year old possible grad students to people in high school preparing to go to college – That was my estimation of the college age. People this age generally have not had the time to establish themselves as their older counterparts…Who’ve had a TEN year head start.

Again when making comparisons, everyone keeps picking the extreme ends of the spectrum. Chain hang low is ONE song, not entirely indicative of a whole genre.

How is hiphop not an attitude of a culture? The problem I have with certain critics and individuals is that they keep putting hiphop inside of a box and saying it isnt hiphop UNLESS it fits these criteria.Hiphop fashion has evolved, hiphop dance has evolved, the role of the dj and lyricism have evolved. Times and neighborhoods have changed. Hiphop is reaching a much wider audience than ever before.

Try again. And if you guys read what Sickamore wrote before his list, he stated that the term in his usage was more indicative of a mind state than an actual age bracket. BUT there are certin things within that age bracket because we were not of age or too young to experience and fully appreciate.
You cant accurately judge the relevance of any event to its time period unless you were old enough to understand and comprehend it.So sickamore didnt say your freaknik and other shit was wack, it just isnt relevant and prevalent in the younger generation of hiphop fans today.

ignoring the “sickamore makes more than me” rant, last time i checked, being born in 1981 [january 21, to be exact] doesn’t make me an “angry 70′s baby.” and i don’t know about you, but i’d rather pay $10-$20 per doctor’s visit than dropping a gajillion dollars on some vicodin & an ace bandage, regardless of wealth. that sounds smarter to me.

“college age?” please. as a college graduate [who happens to have his own place], i was the youngest in my class [the avg age was 30+]. there’s no such thing as a “college age” when 40-50 year olds are getting college degrees.

i’ve been in the so-called “hip-hop scene” longer than you’ve been around [once again, read: 1981 = 80's "baby"] so when i see a new york jig beefing because hip-hop sucks, as well as southern artists, jorunalists, industry insiders & bloggers essentially saying the same thing, it makes you wonder if we’re saying what we’re saying because we’re DISCONTENT [college dollars working yet?] or if there’s some validity. can you honestly dance to “chain hang low” before “bust a move?”
