the blueprint was better than any album released after the turn of the millenium. jay’s blueprint was better then krs’ (yea i said it).its 2009 and i still listen 1-13 without stopping and listen to the bonus tracks to. how can anyone say anything negative, “u don’t know” was a certified anthem. “takeover” killed so many rappers (yea yea i know about ether)”the ruler’s back”:triumphant. “girls,girls,girls” was methodically put together better then any song in recent memory. “never change” was every hustlers theme song (so we can get paper longer then pippens arm!) “song cry” had so much soul. seriously i could go on n on. the blueprint put jay in an iconic status (n thats without “lyrical exercise” being a main track on the album. ill leave you with “muthafuckas/say that i’m foolish/say i rap about jewells/do you dudes/listen to music/or do you just skim through it.” actually take the time to dig the album out and listen to it before you critique it. maybe with an educated opinion your opinion would mean something more then a waste of the five minutes i took to read the article.

i agree, however i was actually on my way 2 cop the blueprint on 9/11, i lived close 2 a military base and wanted 2 get the album 4 a cheaper price. i didn’t have a cd player in my car so i stopped at my granmother’s house so i could listen 2 it ASAP…just as jay began 2 rip n2 nas (who, by the way, is my most favorite lyricist of all time and who should be my baby’s father), the second tower fell. my grandmother and i were watching one of the news channels…that is the only reason i remember when the blueprint came out. nas could easily shit on jay..i mean, with ether, he did, but not enough. and most of the songs were wack, tho my crew and i used 2 like 2 bump that ‘girls, girls, girls’ remix, but it really wasn’t worth fast fowarding thru the blueprint and breathe easy….no it wasn’t a classic, it was a filler

Question, does anyone still listen to blueprint on more than a monthly basis or have it in their regular rotation. U can bet ur bottom dollar i dont listen to that nemore. Nothin important was spat, the production was good for the time but not timeless, and Jay-Z spat his usual pedestrian bullshit about how he is the best since biggy, he occasionally said something about beign a former drug kingpin (riiight). And for what it’s worth: rewind, you’re the man > anything on blueprint. And i don’t even like nas that much.
Blueprint = a good album. Nothing more or less.

What an ignorant discussion, The Blueprint is a most definate 2000′s classic album, from top to bottom and even beyond hiphop! Sure, I can fully understand if someone doesn’t like it, but making up this bullshit is cheap ignorant and annoying. “Eminem ethered him on that shit” – wow, that’s like saying AZ ‘murdered’ NaS on Illmatic. “Can KanYe do a song without sampling” – well, if you don’t like sampling you should really abandon hiphip. “It’s lyricly sub-par” – oh really? I think few can adapt so perfectly to the moods of the different beats. Can you really blame him for writing lyrics that feel like partying on tracks like Hola Hovita. And there’s an art in doing so, too. If some of y’all got sober of their pointless hate and listened open-minded to this album we wouldn’t have this discussion, for sure! After all, everyone has his/her own personal list of classic albums, which no one can shatter.

The Blueprint to me was a classic but Nas Stillmatic was better…. better production and better lyrics. Besides it was at that time were Nas & Jay Z beef was at large. I was more on Nas side because he was samrt person that dropped out of high school and made records that reflect life on the streets and in the minds of people. Jay Z was more of a hustlin rapper trying to get in the game and later on changed the game by becoming more of an artist then instead of being a ganster/hustler rapper. He was great at picking beats and need how to drop his verses without writing them down. Nas songs (Ether a classic dis song, One Mic a classic political song, and Rewind a classic song period for telling the story from the end to the beginning while the beat intoicates you) were gutter and gangsta. While Jay-Z songs (Izzo, regengade, song cry, takeover) were more on the commerical side but his lyrical content is what sold it. Tell me what do you think now?

Blueprint was almost a classic I think the timing(9/11)and the beef(ETHER>anything Jay-Z had to say) and the sound (totally different from what was stat quo at that time, remember Fabolous debuted at that time, and Cash Money were ruling video and radio) all contributed to the blueprints success. and Kanye’s ego has been getting bigger and bigger ever since.I used to dig him(no homo) but damn son is really feeling himself(no homo) his choice of attire reminds me of Micheal Jackson.
