truth be told, rap albums are NOT selling as a whole. it's the climate music is going to. it can be even argued that the reason why t.i.'s debut was so high is mainly due to his movie was being released at the sametime, so it kind of went hand and hand.

on the flipside, busta's album been leaked, downloaded and bootlegged left and right, most of the people, especially on here on this very site, heard MOST if not all of the album prior to it being officially released.

I never really liked busta all that much. I think busta should have been an actor instead of a rapper; he's way too animated and in his videos he tries to use images to take the focus off his lyrics, because they're not that good. I do however have respect for the fact that he's been in the game for this long and he's been the same guy, hasn't changed.

>Amier Starr just absolutely ethered the shit out of Bol.>

^^^ not quite...

>I heard the Big Bang and it’s not a great album at all. But I can see it’s commercial potential. When have you ever sold 209,000 of anything in a week dude? To me those numbers indicate that Busta will probably go platinum, which he did not do on J Records which was helmed by Clive freakin Davis.>

a) he went platinum with the "genesis" album. b) 209,000 does not indicate that an artists will go platinum, as there are many artists that sold 200,000 in their first week, only to barely go [or not even touch] gold [cam'ron's "purple haze," tony yayo's "album" and probably a couple others i don't really care to mention].

>Bol, do you know how many white rock groups would love to sell 209,000 in the 1st week?>

i don't know about selling 209,000, but i do know that the dixie chicks sold about 500,000+ in their 1st week, as did the red hot chilli peppers and some group of crackers that actually outsold TI's 1st week by some 250,000 copies more in their first week. plus, white rock groups who sell 200,000 in their 1st week usually end up hitting gold or platinum, because their audience is not as fickle as hip-hop's, so their album sales won't take a "fishscale" [or "my ghetto report card," or "new joc city," or "king," and so on]-esque dive down billboard [which is why "st. elsewhere" is actually selling MORE copies per week].

>Bol, do you know exactly how much was spent on Busta project? I doubt it, so how do you know if it’s a monumental failure?>

only the crakety-cracks at [curtis "i run"] interscope know for sure, but i'm betting they dumped just as much dinero into "the big bang" as they did "the documentary" [which is the superior LP in terms of production], and that album sold a gajillion copies.

but in between the "hatin' ass negro," "say hello to the white girls" and "shit sandwiches" stuff, amier did have some good points.

Is that how far we've fallen? An album can be declared a classic even though the rapping isn't that good?

"Only thing is, nobody really likes any of those songs. None of them are really bad in the “Laffy Taffy” sense of the term bad, but none of them are really that good either. If this album had a “Woo Ha” or something, I’m sure it could’ve done twice as many its first week out.

In fact, I think the real story with The Big Bang is how they brought in all these big-name producers and still ended up with so many duds. Not unlike TI’s similarly underwhelming King, The Big Bang features a whole gaggle of kinda-wack beats by big name producers.

King did a lot better than The Big Bang its first week out, but primarily on the strength of “What You Know” and “Why You Wanna.” I don’t even know who produced either of them. Maybe it was our good friend DJ Drama. Meanwhile, I doubt that Pharrell garbage will be released as a single.

Compare either of these albums to something like The Documentary, where wack-ass The Game was able to command a whole album of great beats by a litany of top-shelf producers. It’s too bad he’s not a better rapper."

I like The Big Bang, but it doesn't scream "21st century music"... TRUE STORY... and as much as Gnarls Barkley is alternative, the album sounds like it belongs in the 21st century, not the 90's recycled... The next BIG thing (i mean Eminem level BIG) is gonna be "THE ANTI-CORP." mark my words!

“Only thing is, nobody really likes any of those songs.

It’s too bad he’s not a better rapper.”

I like The Big Bang, but it doesn’t scream “21st century music”… TRUE STORY… and as much as Gnarls Barkley is alternative, the album sounds like it belongs in the 21st century, not the 90′s recycled… The next BIG thing (i mean Eminem level BIG) is gonna be “THE ANTI-CORP.” mark my words!

Bol,
I used to think you were fairly intelligent, but now I see you're kinda clueless and you need to get da hell out the house and stop talking hip hop with the 2 white girls that live next door to you.

I heard the Big Bang and it's not a great album at all. But I can see it's commercial potential. When have you ever sold 209,000 of anything in a week dude? To me those numbers indicate that Busta will probably go platinum, which he did not do on J Records which was helmed by Clive freakin Davis.

Bol, do you know how many white rock groups would love to sell 209,000 in the 1st week?

Bol, do you know exactly how much was spent on Busta project? I doubt it, so how do you know if it's a monumental failure?

Just cause you liked Whoo Ha, does not mean the album would have sold 400,000 if Whoo Ha was on it. What were the 1st week's numbers for Busta 1st album anyway.

No one likes "Touch it"?

3 people care about NY hip hop? Just cause your knitting cirle doesn't care about NYC hip hop, don't jump to stupid conclusions. Besides you and Chingy, how many people care about the St. Louis hip hop scene? Oh I forgot, you and Chingy make up the entire hip hop scene in St Lou (Nelly is officially Pop, he don't count)
Now I admit that was an ignorant statement, but you sound equally ignorant when you write this stuff.

I used to be a hater like you Bol. I hated Puffy, I hated Mase, I hated anything that I didn't love. But I realize how stupid and out of touch I sounded when I did it. Your opinion amounts to a picnic table full of those shit sandwiches you're fond of refering to dude. And if you wanna stick to your opinion, at least have sum hard facts to back it up dufus (you don't know who produced the records, but you know they were big name, right?). Without those you sound like what you are, a hatin ass negro. Say hello to the white girls for me too dude.
