Although the author is obviously an idiot, reggaeton really did die in the summer of 07 (some might even say 06). That being said the heyday of radio reggaeton 7 years ago has been replaced with its oldschool ancestor known as “underground”. Underground was the early reggaeton that had its orgins in the late 80s and early 90s and it has been remixed by local and regional djs into a speedier breed of underground/reggaeton known as “dembow”. No more radio dominance but the sound is still very popular at parties. Bruised but not buried. Que viva el reggaeton 1990s-infinity.

Well said LAMAR. I am glad to see that not all Black people are as stupid as DAMIEN. I am black too and I can say that people like DAMIEN the reason why the word “nigger” was created.

Go to college, educate yourself and understand that there are many types of people in the world with different taste. Different does mean inferior. I am almost ashamed to think that maybe the author of this piece [of shit] is Black.,just like me, because it is a misrepresentation of the “non-typical” intelligent black person. I’m not sure if this article is more ignorant or more racist. So you don’t like the music, that’s fine but you don’t have to demonize it. You are doing exactly what people did with Rap when it was first getting started. Latinos everywhere also have mixed feelings about Reggaeton. Some like it, some don’t. And yes, Latinos are proud of their music, as well they should be, they created it. Aren’t Blacks proud of rap music? I sure am for the most part. But the real answer is yes and no. Yes for those who like it and no for those who don’t. While the majority DO like it, there are a select few that simply don’t. Could it be the hyper-commercialization? Possibly. Or could it be that it in it’s own way it is also repetitive? If you were in the least bit educated, you would recognize that all music “uses the same beat”. Beats are recycled all the time. Most music is repetitive by nature. Even rap. Listen to a rap beat with out lyrics. You will see that the beat repeats. Or better yet, sit in on the production of a rap beat. You will see that there is certainly repetition. While Reggaeton is certainly guilty of using a select few loops over and over again, what about the lyrical content of Rap? Is it not always talking about money, sex, drugs, hoes, guns, in every single rap song out there, in it’s own way repetitive? It definitely is. Not to mention the fact that you probably don’t speak Spanish and thus are unable to understand what the lyrics bring to the mix. Will Reggaeton take over hip-hop? Unlikely, but to demonize it for characteristics that are shared among many genres of music is pretty ignorant.

Additionally, you comments regarding a border confirm your bigotry. Music doesn’t see or have borders. Only ignorant racists fucks like you do. So go ahead, and build your border. Let’s see how well it works to keep out something that mostly exists in digital form. Idiot.

Just to enjoy it I need to sustain a serious head injury and then I need an 8 ball of coke on top of it. After all this time I still can’t figure out how nobody tried to use drums that aren’t lazy stock drums to add flavor to it, every song is the same, no creativity, I can flip a reggaeton beat with my iPod using nothing more than the tip of my dick. Worst music ever created for the dumbest mofos on the planet, period.

It is not the genre that is bad, it is the actual artists. They have no talent and they continue to be followers and not leaders. That is the problem. Now look at what the fuck is happening right now with reggaeton. Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Wisin & Yandel, they have all gone in a different direction and the music has evolved. It was just a matter of time. I bump hip hop 24/7 but reggaeton is a good listen too. You can’t just go on and diss any type of music like that.

Motherfuck that noise.

Music changes with time just compare Biggie’s Ready To Die with Kanye’s music, or even Hova’s shit. They sound different yet still maintain the essence of hip hop. That’s what happened and will continue to happen with reggaeton.
