[...] I spent last Sunday strolling down Canal Street to scope out the current mixtape scene. Relived both good and bad memories of when I used to drop CDs. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not retired, but I’m also not the most active participant these days either. It was all pounds, smiles and hugs because they look at me as one as the few who “made it out”. But when I looked around I noticed a very disturbing trend for me. Though there was an abundance of best selling “artist mixtapes”, from 50 to the Dips to the King Of New York, there was no hot “DJ” tapes per se. That’s when I realized the relevance of the “mixtape DJ” is numbered. [...]

Camron the whole Dipset “movement” is bullshit. Just b/c he comes out with halfass mixtapes every month doesnt mean he has a movement.

Camron is just some what smart. He made a Couple Of MIl and invested in shit like recording equipment, so he could press and distribute his bullshit.
——thats it, thats all it is

His crew will never sell beyound gold if that.
JR Writer wont go gold neither will Hel Rell.

Juelz might make it for a while (barely though) only b/c he is on Def Jam so he will have a record deal for a couple of years.

—–I beat Nas go after Dipset, or at least Camron, and when he does it will be another ETHER…..

sick: i like your posts but you need to chill with the whole 80's baby thing. being an 80's baby doesn't mean you were actually born in the 80's (i.e. the phrase is not to be taken literally).

the only reason people even mention the 80's (at least in hip-hop) is primarily because of the things that were going on in the streets at that time. therefore, if you were born in 1980 or later you were much too young to have any real-life experience with that.

so in actuality, if you were born at any time in the 80's you are really a 90's baby because that is when you came of age. but no one really reminisces about the 90's in hip-hop because a) it wasn't that long ago, and b) the 90's was, for the most part, a lame decade.

why do you think Jay would call himself an 80's baby when he was really born at the tail end of '69? (hint: he wasn't trying to pull the wool over our eyes.) the point he's making is that by the end of the 80's he was in his late teens and, presumably, doing things in the street that no one born in 80 or later had any part in. so for all you twenty-somethings out there, enjoy your youth but find another identity. you may have been literally born in the 80's, but you are not 80's babies in any way that holds real meaning. sorry...

anyway, just thought i'd attempt to correct you on your misappropriation of this phrase. other than that keep up the good work. it's nice to see a cat your age doing his thing.

p.s. ain't nann nigga born in the 80's slapping me...well, maybe if he's strapped and i'm not...but other than that, FUGGEDABOUTIT!!

also, to prove i'm not the only one who knows the true definition of an 80's baby, please see this post:
