I am a black woman and I get the respect I deserve because it’s what I give and demand in return. I’m not bothered when women are called bitches and whores because a generalization isn’t in reference to me. No one who knows me personally would ever think that of me so why is this such a big issue with so many other people? You get the respect you deserve and demand! I’m tired of hip hop and videos being put on the forefront when the Imus situation is mentioned. Those songs containing bitch and ho are,in my eyes,for entertainment. That’s obviously what sells, so the artists are just giving the people what they want. If you don’t like the content of a song, DO NOT LiSTEN! Let these artists express their creativity however they choose. At the end of the day, it’s their right to do so!!

Just something quick, I do not agree with a lot of the comments in regards to this. But I also do not feel that that are worthy of commenting on, for it seems to be a lot of immature boys (posing as grown men) making these comments. I will not lie and say I do not like to look at a beautiful and shapely Black woman do her thing. But I would not go as far as to say I like to see it all the time. It gets mundane and it is just another woman with flesh shaking around. Got better things to do with my time then to look at a woman all day, who 9x out of 10 is not looking at you, because your money may not be long enough or she thinks that you are ignorant because you are looking at her. As we as men like to call women hoes, women who strip call us hoes for paying them money to strip, when instead u could be home paying bills or something. Also for the fact that you can not go home or do nothing with half the women in the club.

Also the jackass who said all women who strip are hoes is retarded; most women do that as a last resort to pay bills or something. How many college females do you know who strip to pay the term bill, but if you saw them out side of the club u would not think that nursing or that business students was working at the Body Tap or the Gentlemen’s Club (Long Live the spirit of that Heavenly Place).

Lastly the women stripping is the equivalent of what males do when we sell drugs or rob or steal. We are trying to make ends meat or a means to get by, their happens to be legal ours is not. Imagine if all you had to do was dance for a few hours a night, something you like to do anyhow, and could get paid for it all you have to do it show off your body. Half you men would do it, it is faster money that drugs and it is legal, so be careful of who you call a hoe, that hoe might be your future daughter. For most parents do not know their daughters stripper while in college.

I agree with dude that wrote this all the way. As a black male I understand why they have our sisters in videos half dressed, but there’s a limit and it seems that the rappers of today don’t see that. Hip hop has been known to push the limits, but someone needs to take a stand and a high selling artist. I support some of the grown and sexy videos, but I also feel that rappers like the Ying Yang twins tear down our black women. We can show our sisters in a more intelligent way than we do. Oh and like I said I ain’t complaining, b/c I like the eye candy section in xxl, but like I said there’s a limit.

So, this phenomena actually is not new with hip hop. Since early on, black women have always been seen as sexual objects by white men. They raped, beat, and destroyed our black women on the plantations and in slavery, and, they continue to do it today. Only, they have passed on the dirty work to black men.

Sexism is created in society through socialization. Women can be sexist, as well as men. But, men, having the power in this patriarchal society have a better chance to carry out this sexism in a systematic way.

Saying a woman should have “known better” to be in a certain area which led to her rape, is overt sexism. It is placing the blame on the victim, instead of the person who is really at fault- the person who assaulted her. But it’s ok, EVERYONE is affected by sexism because we are trained to do so by those in power. ie. white men.

Hip Hop is simply bringing an age old problem into a new light. Only problem is, now its black men doing it to black women, and because its black men doing it, other black people do not want to recognize it as an issue.

I guarantee if hip hop artists allowed women to wear some jeans and a t-shirt ( simple stuff) in a video, a woman most certainly would do it. If, she was guaranteed to get money without having to go above and beyond in some way.

We need to stop buying and selling our women in such a manner. Black people unite, and for something meaningful.
