Why do black people in general all around the world feel it necessary to create division based upon things that are totally inappropriate for that purpose. Music is something that is meant to be enjoyed and appreciated not used as a reason to create more ridiculous division in the black community.
Why get so emotional about someone slagging of a rapper or a genre of music you are into when the bottom line is if they don't like it then it is their loss and should have little or no effect upon how much it means to you. I'm not a big fan of south rap just like i'm not a big fan of rock but for me to say that both of these are devoid of talent, and undeserving of their mainstream success would be very ignorant. I've read posts saying that east coast fans need to grow up but surely the fact that south rap fans feel it necessary to actually dignify comments made insulting their music and artists with in many cases equally small minded and stupid statements- "fuck y'all hater"- shows that maybe both sides need to do some maturing. Some south rap is awful but some of it is good, any hip hop fan who has heard a reasonable amount of it should know that. This article is full of sweeping generalisations written in a way to cause maximum offense to southern hip hop fans and re-affirm the convictions of those misguided enough to already share BOL's opinion. It is far more of a childish rant than it is effective journalism and should provoke nothing but indifference from true hip hop fans.

This is a perfect example of another bullshit, so-called Hip-Hop purist, miseducated critic. See, I could go all out and talk that East Coast shit but I got love for true hip hop as well but what alot of you fail to realize is that old music that alot of us grew up on is gone with the times and you have to either upgrade or keep bitchin about what was. I agree that lyrical content and artistic integrity is at an all time low but that shit ain't start in the South. Wack music was coming out of every other coast before just as much and alot of the big name artist from East/West were brickin. The South has been payin dues forever to get it's fair due and now that we've been dominatin, it's been really gettin to alot of these NY Supremecists that have no regard for anything that isn't coming out of NYC. The truth is that there are plenty of great rappers from the South. The problem is that you're being misinformed and judging the South from it's mainstream artists/music. If you were a pure Hip Hopist, the first thing is you know that Hip Hop started as a grassroot movement and radio wasn't a form of marketing so why in the hell would you try to sum up the whole souther n culture from the mainstream music? It shows the ignorance on your own part.

Dear Mr. Crawford

Your ingnorace toward southern hp-hip is truly stunning. You work for a hip-hop magazine, not a New York hip-hop magazine. For you to say southerners stop bitchin is out of line. We are not the ones on t.v., in magazines, on the radio chanting "hip hop is dead". I been watching New York area rappers claiming that they feel hip hop is dying and that they are fed up with the industry. Let's make one thing clear, there is no B.E.T., M.T.V.,X.X.L., The Source headquarters down south. If you or anybody else from the New York City area feel that hip hop is on the decline, then go to your local radio stations and protest to them. You guys didn't have a problem when all you saw on T.V. were Mobb Deep, Nas, Jay-Z, Wu Tang Clan, etc. Did we complain? No. We sat back and watched hip-hop grow into a media monster. Now that the south has the ball everybody seems to have something to say about our music. What has the south done to deserve such much hate. If New York rappers feel that their radio stations play to much southern music then make something that appeals to your fanbase. I'm not going to touch your comments about Pimp C, I what you put in your blog, I want you to say those words to Pimp c's face and see what king of reaction you will get. Since XXL put up your blog about southern hip hop shows me what people at the magazine think about southern hip hop, since this is the case I will no longer read XXL magazine again.

[...] The internets got him goin’ nuts - Bun B losing his shit because Bol rode out on southern hip-hop (most of which does, in fact, suck). Here’s what Bun B–yes, that Bun B–wrote: Who the fuck are you to sit behind you safe little cubicle and criticize who we are and what we do? For more than 20 years. Southern Artists and fans have faithfully supported any and all hip hop that was offered. We accepetced everyone on their own merits, gave evryone a fair listen, and then spoke. In light of you comments and views, it occured to me that you haven’t given near as much open mindedness to our music as we have to yours. The reasons I say yours is that it doensn’t what type of music came out, we supported it, so we in no doubt supported whatever the fuck you listen to. To think that all we know is what we do, or that we may know nothing at all is preposterous. If you’re a paying member of Soundscan, you can see that ALL MUSIC SELLS IN THE SOUTH! 5 percenter? Bought it. Backpackers? Bought it. Black power, Wu-Tang, horrorcore, need I say more? Meanwhile, after 25 years of unconditionally holdin down all forms of rap/hiphop music, as soon as we even try to join a club we bought and help build the clubhouse for, they wanna deny us access. Well guess what you Elks lodge habitatin, Masters in Augusta wanna-be, finger-pointin behind the bushes, throwin a rock and runnin ass nigga, I just thought I’d tell you to take whatever preconcieved notions you have built up in your air and watertight cranium AND STICK IT IN YO PUSSY! I guarentee you the TRUE FANS AND MAKERS OF HIP HOP JUST MIGHT DIFFER WITH YOU! I know this because I am friends with Cool Herc, Grandmaster Caz, Melle Mel, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap and other extremely well known originators and creators of this artform. The problem now is the act of causing division and dissention amongst the fans by people whom are not in the know. You see, YOU may not like Laffy Taffy or DFB or whoever, and you know what, that’s your GOD-given right. Hate all you want on the South, Southern rappers, or just Pimp C, since you brought him up. IT STILL WONT HELP WHOEVER YOU LIKE SELL SHIT! Talib Kweli: close friend of UGK. De La Soul: close friends of UGK. Kanye West, Common, Dead Prez, close firends of UGK. Jam Master Jay, 2 Pac, Biggie Smalls: ALL FUCKING FANS OF UGK, and I dont say this from second hand conversation. These people told me this from their own mouths, yet you would have people believe otherwise. They could learn to be openminded about the music the listened and the regions the music was popular in, so it should come at no surprise these people went further thatn the average artists. Whatever alterior motive you may have is trying to bring down the Southern rise, it won’t work. God kills hate with love. Oh yeah, by the way, as far as your comments on my brother and his reason for incarceration, he pulled a gun on a group of people thrreatening him in a mall. Only the girl went back and told the police, that’s why it seems as if it was between only him and the girl. The problem is, misinformed people give misinformation and cause misfortune to the learing. I hate to call this the blind leading the blind, because by the look of your commment posts, they know what’s up. So instead of just going to New York, screaming and ranting in White Nigga’s office, I came to see you on your turf, because I’m no coward. I’m willing to come in your yard: care to come in mine? Right a rhyme, let;s see what you have the hip-hop community musically. Oh and make sure it’s Grammy-nominated when you do it, because mine was. And while you’re at it ask Nas, Jay-Z, Papoose, Camron,, Russell Simmons, 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Chino XL, Self Scientific, Cyrpess ill, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris or anybody else in this industry you like if Pimp C is wack. I bet they bark on you louder than I want to. God forbid you’re in the wrong place and the wrong time like Pimp and have to spend 4 years of your life behind bars. You’re a black man, so fuck how educated and well read you are. You’ll ride just like Pimp, and you’ll be sorry about it, just like Pimp. The only difference: nobody’s gonna wear a fuckin t-shirt with yo face on it. Leave the South alone, becausse we’re just tryin to eat. Quit bloggin and write a book if you got more goin on besides gossip and shootin slugs. Because after blogging has come and gone, and XXL is no longer on stands or online(which I would hate to see), UGK and our musical legacy will survive. Will your triflin rants sustain?
I swear east coast blacks are similar to racist white folks. You think your way is the best way and hold yourself, music, slang, and culture above everyone elses. You come down to the south and complain make statements like "we do it like this in nyc" and "they wouldn't have that in nyc", yatta, yatta, yatta. Nobody from the south was complaing when hip hop started in the 80s. The south wasn't complaining when the west coast was doing their thing...east coast was though. East coast blacks are the ultimate hatters and this column proves furthers my point.

I'd like to also give my two cents about the whole "hip hop is dead" movement before is submit. Most true hip hop fans don't consider southern rap as hip hop. To simlfy that last statement I'll put it into an equation. Southern rap = just plain rap. East coast rap = hip hop. Most rap and hip hop fans whether cultured or not agree with this assertion. If this is a true statement then wouldn't it be the east coast's fault that hip hop is dead? Nevermind east coast you don't have to answer that because I'm sure you'd just give a lame excuse like the white man is holding our music down.

I would like to apologize to the following east coast hip hoppers if I offended them :

Pete Rock, CL Smooth, Mos Def, wu tang clan, beanie segal(for real nigga i don't want it with you), peedi crack, freeway, LL, redman, joe buddens, 50 cent, jay-z, run dmc, biggie, big daddy kane, curtis blow and a bunch of other east coast niggas.

I won't get on the internet and say crazy shit like some of my Southern brethren, BUT I have to site that the South isn't the only region putting out bullshit. Ever heard of "Chicken Noodle Soup"? Come on now, EVERYBODY knows that shit was straight TRASH. I think that most of the music out (atleast the music getting radio play in the mainstream) is setting Hip-Hop back. But I just can't understand why GROWN ASS MEN can't just not listen to music they don't like instead of hating on the South. I don't like alot of the shit coming out of the EAST and WEST coasts (I cuts for Kiss and Game though)but I ain't blogging about the lameness of either side, nor am I blaming them for the decline in the quality of rap. Think about it, who is REALLY making good music right now?
Last point before I go on with the rest of my life. I assume that niggas on the East coast (I'm assuming that the person who wrote this is from NY or some Northeastern locale)ride around listen to West coast rappers' music or East coast rappers' music? Cats out West, do ya'll ride around bumpin' Cam'ron? "I'll go out on a limb" and say most of you don't. Point is, down here most of us (Texans stand up) don't really rock none of ya'll shit EXCLUSIVELY, but we ain't hatin on ya'll; we just doing what everybody else did: making our own sound. STOP SNITCHIN, STOP LYIN, and oh yeah, STOP HATIN.

I’ll admit, southern beats are fun to dance to but it’s the lyrics that kill it. I used to be really into Satanic rap like Brotha Lynch Hung, Mr. Doctor, Sicx, Gangsta Pat. I believe lyrics have can have an effect on you spiritually. I started read The Bible (Life Application version) then I’d be out at the club A-Town stoppin’ and I’d come home feeling kidda sick (not coughing and sneezing) but like on the inside. Anyone else experience this? Just wondering…cuz the more I read the bible the less I like “Ms. New Boody” and all that bling-bling, grillz, junk. Lastly, it would be nice to have some girls that can ACTUALLY dance in some of these videos like B-boy/B-girl style. We’ve seen that booty poppy crap since Dre. Day! Its been 15 joints now, mix it up please! I’m out!
