I wrote a piece on my Rap Coalition Blog about how hip hop has to be authentic and relevant in order to be taken seriously. It pains me to say this because Run Dmc was my favorite group, fifteen years ago (hell, in 1987 my licnese plate said "RUN DMC" and I had to go to 4 different states to register my car before I found one that had it available--Delaware). But artists like Lyte and Run and DMC are just not authentic or relevant anymore, which breaks my heart because I love them dearly. I'd rather mail them $17.99 NOT to record another CD. In fairness, there is NO ONE that I loved in the mid-80s that I'd still rush out to buy, not even Chuck. Hell, maybe I'VE changed... Rap Coalition

I’m amazed that “Checks, Thugs & Rock ‘N Roll” finally got released after all these years. The thought of listening to DMC rasping/rapping about driving his pick-up truck is about as appealing as having a root canal without anasthetic.

That video with Run in his “Batman” cape was equally horrible.

and if the legendary Run-DMC was a young, new group trying to get put on in ’06, even with JMJ (RIP), they’d probably not even get signed (too obvious and corny) — it’s like that, and that’s the way it is.
