Duck Down, Blacksmith Join Forces For CMJ Showcase In New York

Duck Down Music Inc. got its start in the mid-90s, as a record label and cornered the market in independent Hip Hop with flagship group Black Moon making headway for offshoot groups Smif-N-Wessun, Heltah Skeltah and O.G.C. As the years have gone on, the label has expanded outside its New York roots and signed a bevy of acts from varying regions.

Talib Kweli’s Blacksmith Records imprint, established in 2005 with Corey Smyth, has served as a home to female powerhouse MC Jean Grae, west coast rhyme slingers Strong Arm Steady, and Idle Warship which features singer Res and Kweli.

The likeminded labels have corralled artists from their respective camps for their upcoming “Duckdown Vs. Blacksmith” showcase at the 2011 College Music Journal Marathon & Film Festival taking place this Saturday (October 22) night in New York City. Read more...
