Over the weekend the fifth annual BET Hip-Hop Awards was taped in Atlanta’s Civic Center, and this year’s series of ciphers were finally revealed. XXLMag.com recently caught up with up-and-coming rapper Vado, who was included in one of the seven sessions to speak on the experience.

The Harlem MC—who rhymed alongside Diddy’s former assistant Fonzworth Bentley and Latino spitter Reychesta [watch below]—said he wasn’t nervous about showcasing his talent for the event. “It’s like a walk in the park for me cause I grew up doin’ that,“ he explained. “I’m one of those types that love to show off for the camera, so when I got there you know everybody showed love, the vibe was crazy, so we just got it off. “

When asked if he thought that BET could have put him against some stiffer competition, the Cam’ron protégé didn’t hold his tongue. “Of course,” he said, adding, “but you know, it’s all love. I’m patient so it will come in due time, trust me.”

The BET Hip Hop Awards airs on October 12 at 8 p.m. EST the same day as Vado’s street album, Slime Flu, comes to stores. Meanwhile Cam and Vado’s Gunz ‘n Butta collabo flies onto shelves on November 22, the same day as new releases by Kanye West, Lloyd Banks and Nicki Minaj. —Jesse Gissen
