Feds Officially Name Jam Master Jay Murder Suspect

The Feds have officially named Ronald "Tinad" Washington as a suspect in the 2002 murder of hip-hop pioneer Jam Master Jay at his Queens, NY recording studio. Although Washington recently told the Boston Herald that he expected to be charged in the crime, up until now authorities had not publicly fingered the Queens man as a suspect. According to the Associated Press, federal prosecutors named Washington as an accomplice of the actual, unnamed triggerman in court papers filed earlier this month. According to the papers, Washington "pointed his gun at those present in the studio, ordered them to get on the ground and provided cover for his associate to shoot and kill Jason Mizell." Prosecutors declined to comment on the case, but the papers reveal that Washington has also been named as a suspect in the 1995 murder of Tupac associate Randy “Stretch” Walker. Washington has denied involvement in either case. In a sworn statement, he claimed that Queens detectives unfairly harassed him while investigating the case. "There have been many incidents where I was harassed and even assaulted by officers from the 103rd Precinct,” he said in the statement. Fern Yates, a spokeswoman for Jay’s family, said, "We're relieved there's some information coming out, although we understand that it's not the full story.”
