T.I. Summoned to Court in Drug Bust, Tests Positive for Opiates

Almost two weeks since T.I. was arrested in West Hollywood, the Atlanta rap giant is expected to appear in court and plead with a judge to not revoke his probation.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the judge in Tip's federal gun case, U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr., signed the summons yesterday (September 16), but a date has yet to be determined.

As previously reported, the King of the South and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle were both busted with ecstasy pills on September 1, after being stopped by authorities for making an illegal U-turn.

The incident puts Tip in serious jeopardy of returning to jail. The Grammy-award winning artist is currently under strict probation since returning home from jail on federal gun charges earlier this year and this arrest poses three possible instances of violations of that probation, including associating with a convicted felon, possession of ecstasy and testing positive for opiates.

As far as the opiates are concerned, TMZ speculates that T.I. may have been drinking syrup the night of the arrest, since the popular Southern drink contains the opiate codeine, and several Styrofoam cups were found in the rapper’s vehicle at the time of the arrest. In addition, authorities also found marijuana in T.I.’s car.

The Southern superstar’s label, Atlantic Records, has yet to comment on how Tip’s legal troubles will affect the release of his forthcoming album King Uncaged, scheduled to hit stores this year.
