Now we know how Al Gore felt. Last week XXL opened the door for faithful readers to reflect on the past 10 years by allowing fans to vote online for the Best XXL Cover of the Millennium, but some have attempted to ruin that moment.

Following various reports of a “cheat code” being posted on a fan site message board that would allow readers to vote multiple times per day on XXL’s Best Cover of 2002 ballot, the magazine’s staff has investigated the complaint and rectified the situation.

With more than 10,000 votes tallied for the 2002 covers, there was no way to determine which were true ballots or potentially false ballots cast using the now inactive cheat code. Rather than disqualify any of the covers based on the actions of an overzealous fan(s), the XXL staff decided in the issue of all fairness to throw out all prior votes for the 2002 covers and reset the ballot.

With that said, fans can now recast their votes for 2002 with total confidence of no foul play or stuffed ballot boxes. Voters are allowed to vote once per day from now until the end of the workday Friday, January 15, when polls officially close.

Check back in on Monday, January 18 when the top 10 XXL covers will be unveiled and readers can then vote in the second round to determine the Best XXL Cover of the of the Millennium, which will be named Friday, January 22.

Feel free to continue voting again for your favorite covers from 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
