T-Pain took home the Songwriter of the Year honors at the BMI Urban Award last night in Los Angeles. The Florida native also nabbed Producer of the Year honors, sharing the award in a three-way tie with J.R. Rotem and Kanye West. T-Pain also performed as the show as he was joined onstage by Rick Ross.

Lil Wayne is gearing up for the MTV Video Music Awards this weekend in Los Angeles. The Cash Money rapper was an opening act last year, but this year he's set to perform on the big stage. XXL's Editor-in-Chief Datwon Thomas, and a few other notable experts, weigh in on the importance of Weezy's scheduled performance.
